A virtual COP30 parallel event hosted by the AmazonArt Foundation

Belém, Brazil – October 2025. As the world prepares for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, Maestro Diego Carneiro, a celebrated Brazilian cellist, Rotary Peace Fellow, and founder of the AmazonArt Foundation, returns to his hometown to lead a transformative initiative where music becomes a bridge for peace and environmental action.

Earlier this year, Maestro Carneiro and his foundation launched the global Instruments of Peace campaign, an initiative that brought together artists, Rotarians, and communities across continents to collect and deliver hundreds of donated musical instruments to young musicians in Ecuador. Many of these youth come from migrant and refugee families, often surrounded by poverty or exposed to gang-related violence. Through mentorship and music, they have found an alternative path, the one that nurtures trust, purpose, and belonging. The campaign became a living symbol of how music can heal, unite, and empower.

Now, building on that same spirit of collaboration and hope, Diego introduces “The Harmony of Action: Music, Peace, and Climate Resilience”, a virtual parallel event for COP30 to be held on November 18, 2025. Rooted in his belief that music is a universal language for reconciliation, the event aims to showcase the connection between peacebuilding and climate resilience through creative dialogue and artistic expression. The initiative seeks to promote peace through inclusive and creative dialogue, strengthen partnerships among civil society, academia, and the arts, empower local and Indigenous voices from the Amazon, and develop actionable strategies that unite environmental and humanitarian goals.

Through projects such as the Eco Peace Concert in Uganda as part of the Green Beats Project, transforming waste into musical instruments for the young learners, the foundation has raised awareness about environmental degradation and the cultural resilience of Indigenous peoples.

Even the Foundation’s name, AmazonArt, was inspired by the natural abundance of the most biodiverse forest in the world, the Amazon. These artistic interventions reflect Diego’s lifelong belief that harmony with nature begins with harmony among people.

Beyond that, it carries forward the legacy Diego began when he first laid the roots of the Foundation’s mission. His response to human struggle and hope has grown like a seed nurtured for future generations. This vision will blossom through the creation of a future music and peace center in Brazil, a living space where sound, community, and climate action find their rhythm together. Using music to engage and respond to life struggles he witnessed at a young age, he envisions this permanent hub to embody his lifelong pursuit: turning music into a bridge of peace, healing, and connection among people and the planet.
