They pushed the WIM Committee to recognize the responsibility of developed countries as the largest global polluters, and therefore also responsible for financing reparations to the countries worst-hit by climate disasters.
Without a phase out of fossil fuels we are setting the world on a path for further losses and damages. This is where the COP has failed.
U.S. needs to own their responsibility and pay up what is owed for adaptation, stop funding fossil fuel projects and commit to real and significant investments in loss and damage in support of the most vulnerable nations.
The only way forward to achieve the Paris Agreement target and safeguarding the sustainable development goals is to halt any new development of coal, oil and gas, and to redirect financial flows towards sustainable renewable energy for all.
