Korindo owns the largest palm oil plantation holdings in Papua and has destroyed 57,000 hectares of rainforest in the province since 2001.
This is not the first time the Indonesian Government has blocked private sector initiatives to increase transparency in the palm oil sector.
Palm oil can be good for Indonesia only if there are substantial improvements in forest governance and if the sustainability of its production can truly be verified.
